Attending: Martin (chair); Dave L (minutes); George (treasurer). Peter, Dave A, John, Brian, Mike, Steve Bracey, Steve Burke, Richard, Luke, Kevin, Gary.
Apol: Hubert, Tim, Amar, Ben, Andy, Ian and Daniel. All should be back except Daniel - our thanks to him - who will be out this season because of commitments to medicine. A minute's silence was held in memory of Mike Johnson, President, long standing club member, beloved friend. Martin spoke of the high regard in which Mike was held, evidenced by obituaries on websites for Sheffield, Yorkshire and Derbyshire as well as our own site. Minutes of the incomplete 2019/20 season were not read, nor were matters arising taken, as the passage of time had rendered them irrelevant. Treasurer's report was read. Nearly £500 in the bank, but we decided to look at switching from Lloyds to NatWest to avoid a monthly charge and transaction fees. Only purchase required was 8 clocks, but 6 of these have been stored for safekeeping, so 2 needed. Report on Summer League: A team a pleasing second (+5 =3 -2) behind SASCA. Star performance: Mike S +4=1. B team also second, 2 points behind the winners, but 5 ahead of 3rd place. Ten players got a game, Amar the top performer with 5/6, and well done to everybody: Tim 5.5/10, Steve 3/5, Kevin 4.5/7, Luke 2,5/5, Brian 4/9. Future participation: three teams in Sheffield, one in the Richardson cup; one team in the Derby & District. Election of Officers: Andy Mort has agreed to be our President, and we have every hope that his recovery will see him back among us. George - treasurer; Dave L secretary; Team captains: A team and Derby - Martin; B team Brian; C team - Richard. Dave will be webmaster as part of the secretary role and will act on a suggestion to move the photo of the club ca. 1951 from the front page in favour of something a little more contemporary. We decided against an equipment officer. Sheffield proposals: we have three votes - one as a club, one each for Mike and Dave L as vice-presidents. Mike and Dave will vote as they see right, but we decided that as a club we will vote to keep the top division at 8 boards, and in favour of the proposal to introduce incremental timing at 60 minutes for the game plus 10 seconds per move. Rapid Play tournament: we hope Tim will organise one for September 22nd, much thanks. Annual subscription will stay at £10, free for juniors. A.O.B: Mike raised the need for a back up plan should the national economic situation lose us the Red Lion venue. The Pig and Pump or other pubs were possible options, but we cannot count on them not being in the same predicament. Should a move be forced upon us, Luke offered to help with transport, much appreciated.
